Areas of Study

• Computer Science: The design and the appliance of complex systems as well as the compact processing of information lie at the core of this field of study. Above all, students learn the practical application of Information Technology.

• Mechatronics: As one of the first universities world-wide and as the only university in Austria, the Johannes Kepler University Linz has offered this interdisciplinary study since 1990. The course includes interdisciplinary elements of mechanical and electronic engineering and computing.

• Technical Mathematics: Its three branches (mathematics in sciences, industrial mathematics and computer mathematics) place strong emphasis on practical orientation. The study aims at practical application of knowledge in industry respectively the specific disciplines.

• Technical Chemistry: A wide range of specialist knowledge is acquired in this course of study, which guarantees optimal entry requirements for the student's professional career.

• Technical Physics: Starting with intensive basic research, this course of study puts a particular emphasis on the area of nanostructures. The areas of biophysics and technical physics provide students with a basic orientation for their future career.

• Economics - Technical Chemistry (WiTech): This course of study was born from a need expressed by modern companies for graduates to combine chemical / technical know-how with knowledge in the areas of business, economics and social sciences. Linz is the only university in Austria to offer this course.

• Teacher Training for Secondary Schools: The subjects Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics and Informatics and Informatics Management can be combined with a second subject (also at another university). The accompanying teacher training courses provide the qualifications for teaching in secondary schools.
