Contacting other students that are now experiencing or have already experienced an exchange at the Johannes Kepler University, might be very helpful while preparing for your stay in Linz.
Therefore don't hesitate to contact any of our current or previous exchange students, as they will be happy to answer any of you questions.
Additionally, below you can read comments and tips from our previous international students. For more feedback on JKU please go to iAgora.
"Don't bring a mobile phone from home - the bills add up because you have to pay for incoming calls!"
"Phone calls were expensive when using a calling card. But you can call abroad even for 2.2 cents/min if you dial a special 0900 number. Go to www.telediscount.at to find your country's access number!"
"Visit the countryside, make a trip on Donau Radweg, taste "Most", spend min. one weekend with Austrian family and you will know how hospitable, nice they are."
"Get a Vorteils Card to save 50% on train journeys and some bus journeys."
"Make the most of the skiing. Make sure you take the opportunity to explore Eastern Europe."
"The use of computers is very common both for homeworks and information. If I would have known it I would have brought one!!!"
"A lot of the good courses are in English. Don't rush to register on the first day of registration. I know people who waited for about 5 hours, I went a week later and waited 5 minutes. If you need help go to your mentor or the REFI(Referat für Internationales), which is run by students. The Uni has set up Tandem-learning, where you are put into groups of native speakers of people who want to learn common languages, eg Austrians wanting to learn English with Americans wanting to learn German. It's a good way to get to know Austrians."
