Admission Requirements

General Requirements

Bachelor and diploma degree studies are open to everybody who has passed a school leaving examination (Reifeprüfung), a university entrance examination (Studienberechtigungsprüfung) or an examination qualifying for university studies (Berufsreifeprüfung) for applicants who have completed an apprenticeship and therefore do not have a school leaving certificate of a higher school.

German Knowledge

International students should already be proficient in German language before coming to Austria. To prove your proficiency in German you can submit a certificate of an examination offered either by Goethe Institute or Österreichisches Sprachdiplom Deutsch.

Applicants who cannot submit evidence of sufficient knowledge of German have to take a German language examination (Ergänzungsprüfung) before being enrolled as a degree programme student.

The Department of Business Languages at the JKU organizes a German language examination (sample examination) three times a semester. The examination is composed of a written and an oral part and is free of charge. Dates and location are announced about a month before the beginning of each semester.

The dates for the Winter Semester 2008/2009 are as follows:

  • 1 October 2008 (registration deadline: September 24)
  • 13 November 2008 (registration deadline: November 6)
  • 22 January 2009 (registration deadline: January 15)

You can register for the German language examination at the Studies and Examination Department. Please note that the oral examination will be arranged individually.

It is also possible to attend a German course at JKU as a non-degree student before beginning degree studies. For more information on the courses German as a Foreign Language please check the general Course Catalogue on either http://www.kusss.jku.at or http://lva.jku.at.

If you have any further questions concerning the German language examination, please contact Roland Fischer, coordinator for German as a foreign language at the Johannes Kepler University Linz.
