3 ISEP Benefits:

4 Employment:

1. Cost of Living

Average costs per month:

Accommodation

Food

2. Scholarships

The Johannes Kepler University Linz is not able to grant scholarships to exchange students.

Scholarships for University of Cape Town students at JKU:
For students from the University of Cape Town, the Upper Austrian Government provides scholarships because of the partnership with the Western Cape Province:

  • 2 scholarships for a full year study period (or 4 scholarships for a semester) at JKU are available
  • The scholarship is € 500 (appr. 4.000 ZAR) per month
  • Students apply through the International Academic Programmes Office at UCT

General information about scholarships for foreign students to study in Austria is available on the web site of the Austrian Exchange Service (Österreichischer Austauschdienst, ÖAD).

You can also contact the local office of ÖAD Linz.

3. ISEP Benefits

ISEP students receive the following benefits during their stay at JKU:

Meal benefits:
JKU provides a meal stipend of € 330 per month. The stipend may be used to prepare meals or to purchase meals at cafetarias or at restaurants.

Please note that meal benefits will not be provided for full year students during February.

Housing benefits:
ISEP students receive a housing stipend of € 190 per month and are free to choose a hall of residence of their choice. The stipend is sufficient to cover the costs of a double room in any of the halls of residence near the campus. Housing benefits are also provided during the vacation periods.

ISEP meal and housing benefits begin Mid-September and Mid-February respectively. For more details please see the Institutional Information Sheet provided by your home ISEP coordinator.

For information on the International Student Exchange Program please visit the ISEP website.

4. Employment

  1. For students who are EU or EEA nationals there are no restrictions concerning work in Austria as long as the fiscal and national insurance regulations are met.

  2. Students from third-party countries need an employment permit to work in Austria. This is to be obtained by the employer before the student starts working. This permit will only be granted for a maximum of three months per year. Work on the basis of a contract for work and labour (by which students are not fully employed and have to take care of their income tax and health insurance themselves) does not require a permit. Further information ia available from the employment office (Arbeitsmarktservice/AMS). Please note that your stay in Austria may not be financed primarily by such employment.
