Documents

If you have a foreign school leaving certificate, you must submit the following documents to the Studies and Examination Department (Studien- und Prüfungsabteilung) in order to apply for admission at JKU:

  1. Application for admission
  2. Secondary school leaving certificate (it must contain the grades in the various subjects and courses)
  3. University admission certificate: a certificate which states that you would be entitled to commence immediately the same degree programme in the country where your school leaving certificate was issued. (HAS NOT TO BE PROVED IF THE SECONDARY SCHOOL LEAVING CERTIFICATE IS OBTAINED IN AN EU- OR EEA-MEMBER STATE!)
  • If applicable: Evidence (certificate) of the successfully passed university admission examination in the country in which the secondary school leaving certificate was awarded or
  • If the foreign secondary school leaving certificate is not equivalent to the Austrian one: Evidence (certificates) of the necessary preliminary studies in the country in which the secondary school leaving certificate was awared
  • In case of transfer from another university: All documents (certificates) relating to previous studies

Authentication of documents

All foreign documents submitted must be either originals or authenticated copies. The authenticity of the documents must be legally validated by the competent authority in the issuing country and by the official Austrian diplomatic mission (embassy or consulate).

All foreign language documents must be accompanied by official certified German translations which must be legally validated by the Austrian diplomatic mission (embassy or consulate) - except translations by Austrian sworn interpreters.

Please note that documents form Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czeck Republic, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Liechtenstein, Macedonia (the former Yogoslav Republic of), Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Romania, Serbia and Montenegro, Slovakia Slovenia and Sweden need not be authenticated because of bilateral agreements.

Students form the member states of the "Hague Convention" without bilateral agreement with Austria must legally validate all documents by a special kind of authentication "APOSTILLE", which will be issued by the competent authority in the country of origin.

Albania, Andorra, Antigua and Barbuda, Argentina, Armenia, Australia, Azerbaijan, Bahamas, Barbados, Belarus, Belize, Botswana, Brunei Darussalam, China (only the territories of special administration areas Hongkong and Macao), Colombia, Cook Islands, Cyprus, Dominica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Estonia, Fiji, Georgia, Greece, Grenada, Guyana, Honduras, Iceland, India, Ireland, Israel, Japan, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Lesotho, Liberia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malawi, Malta, the Marshall Islands, Mauritius, Mexico, Moldavia, Monaco, Namibia, New Zealand, Niue, Panama, Portugal, Russian Federation, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Samoa, San Marino, Seychelles, Solomon Islands, South Africa, Spain, Surinam, Swaziland, Switzerland, Tonga, Trinidad and Tobago, Turkey, Venezula, Ukraina, United Kingdom, United States, Zimbabwe
