Management of the University
The responsibility of the university management is taken by the Rector and the Senate. The Rector is the representative of the university and coordinates the activities of the deans, assigns the resources to university institutions and admits students, controls institutions of partial legal capacity, etc. To fulfill his tasks the Rector is supported by 4 Vice-Rectors, who are assigned with special tasks. The Rector and the Vice-Rectors are elected for 4 years.
The University Board is an independent body advising the Rector and Senate on matters of JKU's management.
Faculties
The Deans (elected for 4 years) and the Faculty Committees (elected for 2 years) are responsible for the management on a faculty level.
A Study Board is set up to decide upon course contents and teaching matters, such as the enactment and modification of curricula, suggestions to the Dean of Studies (Studiendekan) for authorization of lectureships, proposals for the enactment or amendment of study laws, etc. Dean of Studies (elected for 2 years) is responsible for appointing lecturers. He can give guidelines to professors and lecturers, he assigns examiners and awards university degrees, etc.
